Soul Coughing's music seems so central to my teen music tastes that I often forget that I really hated Irresistible Bliss. The production and the song writing of El Oso was slick where Ruby Vroom was raw and out of control. Irresistible Bliss was somewhere in the middle. It grated against my ears.
It was only later that I fell in love with songs like "Sleepless" and "Sound Track for Marry."
But the song I come back to over and over "Soft Serve." Doughty so smoothly blends a 90s pop/alt-rock sensibility with flow of West Coast Hip Hop in general and G-Funk in particular.
