No paragraph encapsulates Dick Cheney:
When Gupta asked Cheney to explain the doctor's false claims, Cheney responded, “I’m not responsible for that.” Gupta answered, “But sir, you saw it.” And then Cheney, refusing to address the lie, dug in: “Listen to me, I think the bottom line is: was I up to the task of being vice president? And there's no question. I think based upon the fact that I did it for eight years that they were right.”
I mean, for fucks sake "I think based upon the fact that I did it for eight years that they were right." It is like Cheney hired a DailyKos writer to write his lines. For 8 years, Cheney was the master of semantic hedging. I don't think he ever lied, because lying implies malice. Cheney genuinely believes what he is saying. That is what makes him black belt hedger. It is also what makes him less scarcely, on balance, then Donald Rumsfeld.
